Happy Fourth of July, Bay City!
Here is your guide to the multi-day fireworks extravaganza that kicks off Thursday, July 5:
The 56th annual Bay City Fireworks Festival runs from Thursday, July 5 through Saturday, July 7, with fireworks each evening.
Entrance to Wenonah Park is $5; or $1 to enter Veteran’s Memorial Park. $25 weekend passes for carnival rides are available on Friday and Saturday. For more information on the exciting weekend, visit the Bay City Fireworks Festival website here. There are activities from noon until 11 p.m each day.
Thursday: The festival kicks off Thursday with a battle of the bands competition from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Wenonah Park. At Veteran’s Memorial Park across the Saginaw River, visitors can find a marketplace with a variety of vendors, a carnival with games and rides, cornhole, and a beer tent. A small fireworks show starts at dusk — a little after 10 p.m.
Friday: Friday’s activities include a country music night at Wenonah Park, as well as more carnival activities and beer at Veteran’s Park. The second night of fireworks is a little bigger — think of it as the appetizer to Saturday’s big show.
Saturday: The third and final day of activities includes a pageant, a performance by the winner of battle of the bands, and a grand 36-minute firework finale at Wenonah Park. The battle of the bands runner up will play at Veteran’s Park that evening, alongside carnival activities.
Parking is available at John F. Kennedy Dr. at Veteran’s Memorial Park, and near Liberty Harbor Marina. On the west side of the park, there are spaces along city streets and parking lots.
The Dow Bay Area Family Y is again charging $15 for parking spaces along the north and south sides of its parking lot at 225 Washington Ave. Families can also reserve three or more spaces on the south side lot for $20 per pass.
Those with recreational vehicles and campers interested in parking for the entirety of the festival can find spaces at the F.P. Horak lot, with prices ranging from $150 to $200, depending on the size of the unit. For more information, reach out the Y at (989)-894-8596.
The Bay City Morning Rotary Club has parking available for $8 per vehicle and $15 per RV at the Wirt Stone Dock lot, located at 400 Martin St., north of the fireworks. Last year, proceeds went toward local nonprofits.
The Bay City Department of Public Safety reminds visitors that items such as personal fireworks, alcohol outside of designated areas, grills or open flames, and non-service animals are not allowed.
Parking is prohibited on the east side of JFK Drive from Midland St. to Henry St. until 6 a.m on July 7.
