A 36-year-old Grand Rapids man died in a crash between a motorcycle and SUV on M-104 at M-231, police said.
The crash was reported about 3:55 p.m. Saturday, July 7.
Ottawa County sheriff’s Sgt. Matthew Wildfong said a silver Honda SUV was going west on M-104 and the driver intended to turn south on M-231.
The motorcyclist, the Grand Rapids man, was headed east on M-104.
Wildfong said that, according to witnesses, a traffic light at the intersection was about to turn red and both drivers appeared to speed up to try to beat the light.
The SUV contained four people, including a child in the back seat.
A front-seat passenger in the SUV was injured and taken to a local hospital. The person’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Wildfong said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
