The Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce announced Wednesday that Julie Coons will serve as the chamber’s next president and CEO effective Sept. 10.
Coons has significant experience leading regional and national business organizations and currently serves as chief operating officer of the Council of Better Business Bureaus based in Arlington, according to a news release.
Coons has served previously as president and CEO of the Electronic Retailing Association and, prior to that role, as president and CEO of the Maryland Tech Council.
Coons was selected after a national search, said Jennifer Siciliano, chief communications and external affairs officer at Inova and the chair of the chamber’s board of directors.
“We believe success for Chamber members, businesses in Northern Virginia and businesses across greater Washington comes from regionally-focused collaboration,” Siciliano said. “Julie’s exceptional background and experience leading diverse organizations makes her uniquely positioned to represent the chamber membership and the regional business community to realize this success. We are pleased to welcome Julie and are confident that her leadership, proven track record, and vision for the Northern Virginia business community will complement the chamber’s exceptional membership, board of directors and staff.”
The Northern Virginia Chamber has an outstanding reputation serving and representing Northern Virginia’s robust business community in our region and beyond, Coons said.
“I am very excited to work with Chamber members, leadership, key stakeholders, and regional partners to build upon the Chamber’s reputation as the preeminent membership organization for business,” she said. ”This is an exciting time for Northern Virginia and Greater Washington, and the chamber is well positioned to develop new and exciting opportunities for businesses from across our region to engage, interact, and lead.“
