The Detroit Pistons have signed guard Bruce Brown, the 42nd pick in this year’s draft.
The 6-5 Brown averaged 11.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 19 games as a sophomore with Miami. His season was shortened by a foot injury before he declared for the draft.
He is healthy now and participating in the Summer League.
Brown’s strength is defense. He considered a combo guard whose future could be at the point.
The Pistons also announced Saturday that guard Dwight Buycks has been waived.
They had a Sept. 1 deadline to guarantee his $1.6 million contract for next season but he became expendable after the club signed Jose Calderon and picked up Brown and Khyri Thomas in the draft, stocking up on a guard position that already included Reggie Jackson, Reggie Bullock, Luke Kennard, Ish Smith and Langston Galloway.
The 6-3 Buycks originally was signed as a two-way player by the Pistons on on Sept. 7, 2017 and had his deal converted to a full NBA contract on Jan. 12, 2018.
He averaged 7.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 14.7 minutes per game., playing a career-high 29 games.
