A dozen alleged members of two rival gangs have been charged with felony rioting for a June 6 incident at the Canyon County jail that the sheriff ways was prompted by overcrowding. “It actually underscores the fact that we do not have the necessary space we need to separate rival gang members,” Sheriff Kieran Donahue told the Idaho Press. The fight was between rival gangs Norteños and Sureños; the delay in the filing of charges came because the case went to a grand jury, Donahue said. It’s the second reported crowding-related riot at an Idaho jail this summer; Bannock County Jail inmates rioted on July 11.
