EMMET COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — Two women were taken to the hospital after a boating accident in Emmet County.
Emmet County Sheriff’s Office Marine Deputies were called to an accident involving a watercraft participating in the Boyne Thunder Poker Run around 3 p.m. Saturday.
According to Sheriff Pete Wallin the boat, a 1998 37-foot Outerlimits, was approximately 1.5 miles east of Petoskey, in Little Grand Traverse Bay, when it either hit an object in the water or had a mechanical failure.
The incident caused one of the outdrives to become separated from the vessel.
Investigators said the vessel abruptly turned sideways, skipped across the water and caused 4 people to be thrown into the water.
Two of the passengers, Jenny McCormick, 29 of Marne, and Sarah Holford, 33 of Spring Lake, were transported to the hospital.
