Tyler Spezia’s third-period goal lifted Bowling Green State University to a 2-1 win over Alaska-Anchorage in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest played at the Sullivan Center late Friday night.
The win completed a two-game sweep for the Falcons, who knocked off Anchorage by a 5-2 score on Thursday.
Bowling Green, ranked No. 14 nationally entering the two-game series, improved to 19-9-6 overall and now have 55 points in WCHA play thanks to a 16-5-5-2 league record. With the victory, the Falcons can finish no lower than third in the final standings.
The Seawolves fell to 2-26-4 overall and 2-21-3-3 in the WCHA.
After a scoreless first period, the Falcons struck first when freshman Connor Ford collected his sixth goal of the season just nine seconds into the second.
But Anchorage tied the game on a goal by Alec Butcher with just 53.7 seconds left in that period.
That set the stage for Spezia’s game-winning goal, his tenth goal of the season, off a feed from Brandon Kruse at the 12:19 mark of the final period.
Freshman Eric Dop earned the victory in net for the Falcons by making 16 saves. Olivier Mantha stopped 20 shots for Anchorage.
Bowling Green will finish the regular-season with a two-game series at Alabama-Huntsville next Friday and Saturday.
