PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – One person is dead after a head-on collision Saturday, Dec. 30 in Pittsfield Township.
Police believe Desten Houge, 32, of Ypsilanti was driving eastbound on Michigan Avenue when he lost control, crossed the centerline and struck a westbound vehicle about 5:20 p.m. east of Campbell Road near Sauk Trail, said Pittsfield Township police Lt. Sean McCormick.
Houge was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the westbound vehicle, a 55-year-old Pittsfield Township woman, was hospitalized in critical condition, McCormick said. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police do not suspect alcohol, drugs or speeding to be factors in the crash. McCormick confirmed police will look into weather conditions as a possible cause, but noted the incident remains under investigation.
Police believe Houge was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
